Rudolf Macek was born on May 13th in 1925. In 1947 he graduated from the military academy in Hranice. After the communist coup in February 1948 he organized a resistance group among the soldiers; they made preparations for the potential conflict between the East and the West. However, in January 1950 he was arrested and as the leader of the group convicted to 22 years of imprisonment. For the longest time, he was kept in the uranium camp Bytíz - he spent 7,5 years there. He was released only after 1964. During communism he made a living as a manual laborer. At first he worked in the rubber manufacturing industry; later he worked as a laborer in a quarry. After the revolution of 1989 he was active at the testing boards of the police and at the Defense Ministry in the counter-intelligence forces. He was Colonel in retirement. Rudolf Macek died on November 18, 2012.
