Milan Nový was born on September 23, 1951, in Kladno. After graduating from a secondary technical school he did his military service in the Dukla Jihlava ice-hockey club. Then he joined the First Division ice-hockey team SONP Kladno and won the Czechoslovak championship five times in 1975 to 1980. He was voted the best player of the Czechoslovak league for three times. He did not miss a single match in eight consecutive seasons, which is a rare occurrence in ice-hockey. His hockey career culminated at the 1976 World Championship, which the Czech team won. In 1982 to 1983 he played for Washington Capitals in the United States, then he played in Switzerland and Austria. In 1986 he returned to Kladno. He launched his own business after 1990.
